RedTraSex states that the removal —through an institutional coup— of Fernando Lugo, President of the Republic of Paraguay and President pro tempore of the UNASUR, is a serious matter.

Yesterday was Honduras, today is Paraguay. The coup saga that, with persistence, is hovering over democratic, popular and anti-imperialist governments from South America and the Caribbean must be stopped.

We pointed out the Paraguayan Right as responsible for this attack on democracy, whose core is the soybean oligarchy and economic groups linked to the interests of multinational and North American big business.

We stand in solidarity with our Paraguayan sisters and brothers workers, peasants and students, and we manifest ready to mobilize, along with other popular organizations in the region, for this second coup on the XXI century does not go unpunished.

Notwithstanding this, we hope that the authorities of the UNASUR, CELAC and MERCOSUR act with speed, strength and determination that these circumstances require to reinstall in Paraguay the full exercise of democracy and civil liberties.
