On the International Sex Workers Day in Peru they held activities before the Provincial Municipality of Maynas in Iquitos.

In the morning they held a press conference and then presented their diagnosis on violent cases from the Peruvian state at all levels. The report was drafted due to discrimination cases by local and national police among other cases systematically happening in Peru. “We believe the press conference contributed to call upon institutions to provide for the conditions and opportunities female sex workers need throughout the Loreto region” explained Silvia Torres Canayo from the Colectivo de Trabajadoras Sexuales Sarita Colonia Perú and Las Loretanas.
Magnolia Babilonia, also representative from the organization, pointed out that “we were able to show and prove ourselves that we have grown. We know our rights and how to demand them, being together and with strength we carried out concrete actions with clear strategies. We were visualized by the media before public officials and before the society as a whole in order to say we are working women with a right to a life free from violence, comprehensive health care without contempt and discrimination”. The activity ended with a walk on the main city streets where sex worker women claimed for their human right and citizen vindication by the whole Loteranian population.
