Lately, MODEMU bet to raise awareness on health issues through art, a proposal with very good results.
For many years, MODEMU has been working to reduce the number of cases of HIV / AIDS for sex workers women —or sex service women— empowering them to negotiate condom use with clients and trusted partners, and encouraging to see the need to use lubricant Panté for safety and pleasure. Now the organization with the support of the Alliance of Population Services International (PSI) has conducted a campaign through educational theater presentations on preventing HIV / AIDS in people who are in the world of sex work.
The activities developed in areas traditionally known and emerging, and social spaces where fellows and potential customers can inhabit or transit. Fellows stressed that great interest has been shown in learning more about the conscious use of condoms. These educational theater performances have three components: STI / HIV / AIDS prevention, use and marketing of condom and lubricant Panté. MODEMU action line is focused on geographical areas of Haina, San Cristóbal and La Romana, which is contemplated to perform a total of seventy-two educational theater presentations.
Presentations were made by the team composed by: Irelva Méndez, Virginia Pérez, Elizabeth Matos and Carlos Santana, supervised by Jacqueline Montero and Ana Maria de la Rosa, Director and Supervisor of the MODEMU Panté Project.
