Last June 22nd the Movimiento de Mujeres Unidas, together with the center Orientación e Investigación Integral (COIN) held a press conference regarding the rejection of a bill intended to create “tolerance areas” for Dominican sex workers. They consider the move to be unconstitutional and aimed at criminalizing an activity arising from inequality. The bill intended to create “pink areas” in the Dominican Republic was put forward in the House of Representatives last week and the organization claims its purpose is to stop the rise of the calamity in places near cultural and historical monuments in the Caribbean country.
