Organization Workshop and AMMAR planning

Fellow workers from different AMMAR members gathered to share problems going through theirs cities after the closure of working places and to deepen strategies to spread their Law project aiming to recognize sex work as independent work in Argentina.

A workshop was held on October 15th and 16th in the CTA national offices for the training of AMMAR fellow workers from different locations (Salta, Santiago del Estero, Mendoza, Entre Ríos, Rosario, La Plata, Capital Federal, Río Negro and Ushuaia).

The meeting was aimed to come up with a working plan for next year pointing out the creation of working tables in the different affiliates to debate the Law project promoted by the organization.

Other fundamental working issues are the difficulties many fellow workers from the provinces are undergoing arising from the passing of Provincial and Municipal Decree-laws banning night-clubs and whisky-clubs.

“Throughout the country measures are being taken with the excuse of fighting human trafficking, however it is not known that many of these places constitute labor sources for many female sex workers. These policies jeopardize and end up with even more underground sexual work even though AMMAR has always been against human trafficking. Fellow workers many times claimed they have to come out and explain the issue, because many times they are accused of defending the employers, the pimp”, explained from the organization.

From AMMAR we work so that the autonomous sex work be recognized, a struggle that it´s harder each day according to their members because the exercise of the activity is in a legal vacuum and it has a lot of related big businesses behind. Facing this situation fellow workers claim the need to have a Law regulating sex work, thus helping to terminate with many mafias and fight against human trafficking.

After the meeting present fellow workers came up with an analysis agreeing that the year 2012 was “very hard for women who freely choose sex work. It is important to start with more actions, more empowerment, to strengthen and unite, to resist those who would like human and labor sex working rights to be run over”, claimed all.
